Perfect balls for soccer

Balls for soccer and the need for perfection

Not any ball is good for playing soccer. A real soccer fan will only use solid, professional balls, because it makes no sense playing soccer with common, cheapest-in-the-market balls that “go oval” and lose their round shape after a few weeks of play.

The balls for soccer have evolved throughout the years. It is said that they were invented by the native Indians in South America, thousands of years ago. Of course, they were crude objects, mostly made out of inflated animal bladders, sometimes covered with stitched animal leather. The native Indians used to kick that ball around, for fun. But they were not the only ones. The Chinese, for example, played a game that involved dribbling a ball between several posts. The winner was the one who managed to do it faster than anybody else.

In China they were really particular with those “toys”, and in some cities there were even contests between local leatherworkers, each one trying to make the perfect soccer ball. The rounder, the better. That’s because they knew that if a ball is not perfectly round, its trajectory becomes unpredictable, and one could lose the game just because he couldn’t anticipate the trajectory of his soccer ball. Of course, they didn’t call it “soccer ball” just yet, because soccer wasn’t invented at the time. Only in the 19th century, in England, this wonderful sport appeared. And since it grew more and more in popularity, the “instrument” the players were using to play had to be manufactured with more attention to the details.

The rubber bladder was developed in 1862, by a guy named Lindon. Since then, the soccer balls became a very popular entertaining object, and nowadays you can find it practically everywhere, in any city, in any country of the world.
